2x finishes and 1 x new WIP

I finished Jens' quilt. It's made of  a fat 8th bundle of Salt Air by Cosmo Cricket for Moda and based on the  Barefoot in the Park pattern from Stephanie @ Loft Creations.  He got it yesterday morning for his birthday and can I just say this... He loves it  :) The backing is 'super fleece' extra thick and luscious dark grey.  I made it quite big to it's perfect for a snuggle.

I quilted straight lines on the border and stitch-in-the-ditch around the squares. Quite simple but it works great with the fleece. I wanted to quilt around the circles too but ran out of time. I still plan to do it... if I can snatch it away from him that is. That can prove to be a bit tricky as it is already being used all the time. So far the only time I haven't seen him with it was for dinner last night. This morning when I went to wake him up I saw that he had kicked his duvet down on the floor and used the quilt instead...

The weather is not co-operating at the moment so pictures are from the terrace or flashy, indoor pictures. Bear with me. I'm trying my best to control my desire to relocate to someplace where there are actually summers. I've had it with rain and gushy winds.

Another small finish is this Bee Europa block for Miriam:

And then I started a new handquilting project yesterday evening. Pictures will follow soon... I spent most of last night cutting squares and hexagons. Keywords are EPP and Amy Butler's Lark. I'm really excited about this quilt. It's going to take a long, long time, but it will be a great project for this summer.

  1. Quilting with fleece on the back always looks best with something simple - less is more! Great finish - and looks like one very happy wee chappie. Maybe you could steal it every now and then and quilt the circles by hand with perle cotton?

  2. I'm sure your son feels like the quilt is a constant big hug from Mom. It makes me smile to see it wrapped around him. I can't wait to see Lark in person. I need to get to a quilt shop!

  6. Beautiful quilt. I love the bright, but kinda muted colors. I'd love to wrap myself in fleece some nights.

  7. Nice work, and what a great quilt. Have fun with your hexagons! One of my favorite EPP projects was a red-white-and-green hexagons quilt this past Christmas.
