Mother's little helper...

So after a major downer with the kaladescope quilt today (I'm cutting all over again... now much wiser and having learned a lot) I needed a little pick me up. Seeing Jackie's  BOM block for January certainly helped me lift my spirits. This month designer is QuiltDad (John)

Please click here for a tutorial to block no. 5 and be sure to stop by the flickr group to see some great blocks and colors.

And here are the blocks I've made so far.
This is going to be one colorful quilt!

Friday night creativity...

I'm working on the Kaleidoscope quilt tonight.

The paper is my guide to know where to place the pieces. Without I would be completey lost.

If I had endless supply of fabric to choose from I would most likely make two of the blocks different. But I have not, so it will stay the way it is.

It will be interesting to see if it all matches up when i piece it.
Not feeling to sure about it right now  :)

Only little progress… WIP

I dont think I have ever quilted this little in the past year. I have so much non-quilting related things on my plate and it has just not been possible to squeeze in quilting at all.

Yesterday evening I finally decided that in order to keep my sanity some quilting time was required. I moved the furnitures a little, laid out the Made in Cherry project and started sewing. It felt good. Really good. As soon as I started quilting the tension and the stress level went down and I found myself focusing only at the task at hand. I think quilting should be mandatory when you’re feeling stressed :)

I am who I am… and despite enjoying the non-stress I immediately started obsessing over the background color. It needs to be dark I think but what color? I would love to try something else than the obvious dark plum, which is of course a lovely option. I think I need to finish the star first and take the project along to my LQS to compare colors before I can really decide.
Another WIP I started 2 weeks ago – the Kaleidoscope quilt. This is a project we’re doing in my quilting group. I will work more on it next weekend when we meet again. Mine is the one to the left.

The days are slowly getting longer here in Denmark but it’s still pitch dark when I leave the house in the mornings and when I come back. You will have to bear with the bad picture quality a little longer.

I might not have gotten very far this week... Or last week So go on over to Lee's to se some stunning projects.

A weekend of double fun

My quilting group met both Saturday and Sunday this weekend.  The task this time was kaleidoscope quilts. I had no idea what I was up for but I always appreciate a good challenge so I grapped some fabric and dived into it.

It is difficult – very different from the normal blocks – but also a lot of fun. I am far from finished yet but here’s a (bad) snapshot of the projects. Mine is the one in the middle. The teachers is the one to the left.

I have the rest of the fabric ready so I I’ll try to piece it before the group meets again in 2 weeks so that I can concentrate on make the circle in a square in the class rather than piece it. I know I will be needing a lot of help with that. Fortunately the women in my group are all experienced quilters and don’t mind to give me some good advice when needed. They are very patient - bless them  :)
And now I’m off to cut some squares for the Made in Cherry quilt-a-long and catch up on a week of blog reading.

Wednesday WIP: A new year... A fresh start.

My first WIP update this year. First week I was burried in work and seriously stretched for time.  I have so much great fabric waiting to be cut into... just need more time  :) While I can't master much inspiration this week be sure to head over to Lee's to see some really great projects AND a seriously cute elephant.

WIP Wednesday at Freshly Pieced

A new year means a fresh start. are so many new project and tempting quilt alongs so I think 2012 will be a VERY busy and interesting year.

The Made-in-Cherry QAL will start soon. Very soon :) I have some lovely Ruby Heirloom waiting for this beatiful star:

Another to-die-for star quilt -a-long that really calls for bright colors. I might have to go shopping :)

I did finish one thing this week though -another Sparke Plenty quilt from Stephanies great pattern. This was a gift for my oldest who turns 11 today. He really liked the first star I made (the pattern only, not the colors so much) so I decided to make him his own. It ended up bein 160x160cm. Other than the giant star itself I love that it so easy to make in different sizes. My sweet son is (besides being super sweet) a very tactile child - he is always touching and feeling things - so I decided to make a super soft fleece backing. Funny thing is he went with me to the quilt store not knowing I was buying backing for his quilt and once he touched the fleece he couldn't stop feeling it. Needles to say he loved the quilt and he instantely wrapped it around him this morning. It is various grey and light blue scraps and with a black/white dotted border.

Excately 11 years ago I was struggling to bring my oldest son into this world. And what a struggle that was! He  was worth every second of it though... and still is :)

Tonight I struggled finishing his quilt for tomorrow….  Better pictures to follow soon.

Bye-bye2011... Welcome 2012!

Fresh Sewing Day
I'm linking up to Lynnes Fresh Sewing day for this post

2011 was an amazing year quilting wise for me. And I have a feeling 2012 will be even better  :)

A year ago I shared my first quilt online and discovered the online quilting community. I'm blown away by the kind responses and comments I have received over the year. I truely have the nicest followers in the world (and I am not kidding).  My blog only occopies a VERY small corner of the quilt community but I get so much joy from it - and from following some great quilters around the globe.

I feel I made some major steps and learned so much along the way. I am still a novice in every aspect of the word but because of the constant inspiration and great tutorials I have found online I am able to improve with every quilt. And there are really no words that describes how grateful I am for that.

So what did I do in 2011. Well - a lot of quilts to be honest  :)

In 2012 there are so many things I want to do. Other that a few projects I am not making any plans because I know there will be lots and lots of inspiration along the way. Let face it - I'm a terrible planner :) A few things on my must do list though:

I will finish the BOM :

I will join the Made in Cherry quilt along:
