My definition of happiness

Happiness = coming home from work after a long day of talking, meetings and internal, stupid politics and then do this:

Playing with the  the LongJohn blocks.
Of course it's too late to take a good picture but trust me... The colors are wonderful.

One top finished and a new one starting...

I finished another top yesterday evening, which is statistically great for my WIP goals but also leaves me with a not exactly small pressure to get my lazy butt moved off to the quilt shop for some background fabrics. Today is Sunday though and its closed so instead of feeling guilty, I'm going do dive into this wonderful pile of fabrics starting a new quilt for my oldest...

The name LongJohn is very funny and somehow seems appropriate for a long legged twelve year old, who is fast outgrowing his first quilt. After making two very colourful quilts with little planning, I'm really looking forward to working with these colors in a more controlled way. It's all laid up and I'm ready to sew.

But before starting on the LongJohn I'm indulging myself in the finished top on the clothing line (the line bends a little and so does the quilt when on it - it is dead straight once off the clothing line)

And a little detail from the blue corner

My mom has been visiting all week and are working on a very different quilts. It's been almost scitzofrenic going back and forth between these two styles. I love my moms quilt... It's calm an soothing with beige, beautiful blues and soft reds.

Sewing in great company...

Sunday was spent in the best of company. My friend Heidi, my Mom and myself turned the dining room into a sewing room and we spent all afternoon and evening sewing, discussing patterns and ideas, trading fabrics and showing off projects. Now if that isn't having a great time, I don't know what is.

Wednesday WIP... design wall and sorting fabrics

Time for my weekly WIP update.

I have a new project on my design wall - the Roundhouse quilt by Tracejay, that I cut fabrics for a few weeks back. It goes together in no time, but laying out takes a little more time. Lots of fun though - I enjoy playing with the colors. I'm now moving into the blues now  :) My design wall however is full, so I need to start sewing together some rows before adding more blocks.

This week I finally decided to dive into sorting my fabrics as they were a mess and I had lots the overview of what i had. I realised (much to my surprise) that I have lots and lots of fabrics. Still have one basket to sort out with app. ten 1 yard pices, that I purchased on various great sales.
Everything less than a fat quarter goes on the CD shelves in color order. All fabrics ranging from fat quarters to one yard is sorted in the middle shelf. Most of them in color order but I also made some bundles with specific fabric bundles that I want to keep together for some reason or another.

To the left I have boxes with WIP's and - yes - a pile of WIP's and orphan blocks as well. The pile is getting smaller each week though ...

Not sure if the new system is better but at least there is a system  :)

So this week WIP list is this:
- Roundhouse quilt - Now piecing
- LongJohn - ready to cut
- Diamond and chevron quilt - still need to piece
- Blogger of the months quilt - needs basting and quilting

Linking up with Lee's wednesday WIP :) Please go and check out some great WIP's.

Wednesday WIP...

It's Wednesday again and the decision to dive into my WIPs has resulted in no less than two finished tops this week:

This 100x100 inch thing was too tall for my usual quilt holder helpers  to hold up, so we had to hang it over the railing from the back of the house. I'm now looking into getting it long armed quilted. It's going to cost me big bucks (and I'm trying hard not to think of all the fabric I could buy for that amount). Anyways... Happy as can be with this project. Especially after figuring out a solution to the corner blocks.  Pardon my minions quilt holders. They insisted on making making silly faces. I'ven been silently whispering 'This too is a phase and shall pass' to myself a lot lately.

Another (and luckily smaller) top finished at 60x60 inches is the Scrappy Trip quilt made with the Hometown line. I need to get some background fabric before wrapping up the project. It looks like a donation to Siblings Together at this point.

So, you would think I'm out of WIP's right? So not true! I still have some projects that I ought to do:
- Diamond and chevron quilt (piecing)
- Finish the Blogger of the months quilt (basting and quilting)

And I even also have some NEW projects my fingers are itching to get started on

- LongJohn quilt with these fabrics

Be sure to check by Lee's Wednesday WIP for some great projects.
