Summer of EPP'ing

Not a whole lot to say today... Just that I love Amy Butler's Lark and EPP'ing. I'm waiting for my background fabric to come but a girl gotta have some fun so I started piecing the squares and hexagons.

Today is the boys last day of school. I still have one more week of work before I start my vacation. I have been offered a new job - my dream job. I signed yesterday. That also means I won't return to my current work place after the vacation. Though I of course am a bit worried about how little time I actually have to hand over my projects here, I'm excited, happy and really looking forward to the new challenges. And best of all... I get to recharge my batteries before starting the new job. What better way to that than with a little english paper piecing :)

2x finishes and 1 x new WIP

I finished Jens' quilt. It's made of  a fat 8th bundle of Salt Air by Cosmo Cricket for Moda and based on the  Barefoot in the Park pattern from Stephanie @ Loft Creations.  He got it yesterday morning for his birthday and can I just say this... He loves it  :) The backing is 'super fleece' extra thick and luscious dark grey.  I made it quite big to it's perfect for a snuggle.

I quilted straight lines on the border and stitch-in-the-ditch around the squares. Quite simple but it works great with the fleece. I wanted to quilt around the circles too but ran out of time. I still plan to do it... if I can snatch it away from him that is. That can prove to be a bit tricky as it is already being used all the time. So far the only time I haven't seen him with it was for dinner last night. This morning when I went to wake him up I saw that he had kicked his duvet down on the floor and used the quilt instead...

The weather is not co-operating at the moment so pictures are from the terrace or flashy, indoor pictures. Bear with me. I'm trying my best to control my desire to relocate to someplace where there are actually summers. I've had it with rain and gushy winds.

Another small finish is this Bee Europa block for Miriam:

And then I started a new handquilting project yesterday evening. Pictures will follow soon... I spent most of last night cutting squares and hexagons. Keywords are EPP and Amy Butler's Lark. I'm really excited about this quilt. It's going to take a long, long time, but it will be a great project for this summer.

Wednesday WIP - boxes and circles

I believe I skipped my WIP last week – bad, bad me. Life is very busy right now. Lots of things to finish before the summer holiday with the kids and lots, lots to do at work. Although life is busy I have made a little sewing progress. Just not blogged about it...

I  made my first Zakka project this weekend – the nesting box. I wanted something I could work on from the couch while watching European Football Championship with the family. Not that Denmark did very well… but at least WE we had a good time.

I went for the middle size box. It holds op very well but I will use some interfacing when I make the large box just in case. It’s perfect for holding my hand quilting things like sicssors, threads and needles.

Then there is the quilt for my youngest, who will turn 9 in just 5 days. I finished the top for his quilt and just need to get the backing from my LQS (so you all know what I'll be doing this weekend). It's quite big but I figure he will soon outgrow a normal kid size quilt so I am making it a grown-up size and big enough to snuggle in even when he's 14 and taller than his Mom *big sigh*

It's based on the Barefoot in the Park pattern from Stephanie @ Loft Creations. I made the blocks slightly smaller to make the most of my Fat 8's.

I much prefer a pieced back of cotton, but will go for a super cuddely fleece backing instead. It seems to have a certain attraction to Mr. Jens. He is always trying to steal his brothers quilt ‘because is feels so nice’. So naturally I’m happy to oblige and make a soft backing for Jens as well. Quilts being used and loved is what it is all about after all. Sven-C is still using his quilt every single day... Our cat Thomas of course thinks it's his quilt all alone. Luckily Sven-C doesn't mind to share :)

And look who snuggled up to me when I was outside taking the photo. This is Cosmo.

We got him from the same shelter as the others. He is a mix of every possible breed we think. His hair is impossible to keep, he hates being brushed, his one eye is always running, the vet says we can't do anything about it... When we got him he was around 3 years old, half-wild and shaved completely bald (except for a mohawk on the back). It took some time to adjust him to family life, but now he's 10 years old and the happiest, sweetest and most gentle of cats. Stand still for 5 seconds and he'll be right at your feet inviting you to play. Who can resist  :)

That’s it from me this week – but be sure to jump over to Lee’s to see many more WIP’s

A busy week... a finish and a win

I finished the Thomas Knauer Flock baby quilt this weekend. Used some sweet backing and polka dots for the binding. My son loves the fabric. Says it reminds him of caramel icecream. I'm very happy about how it turned out.

Quilt is now on it’s way too Bumble Beans and I hope it will make a little baby and a mom somewhere very happy. My best thoughts goes with it.

The light reflection is a bit hard on the first picture to see the colors but they are really lovely. Every single block is different but still has some symmetry. It's all about finding the pattern in each block  :)

I should have asked Jens to turn the quilt the other way to get a better picture but he was so tirred after a long weekend of games so I didn't push him just feeling lucky I got so much from him despite him being very, very tired after a long weekend of basketball games. He went straight from the shower into his PJ at 5 pm and just after this picture was taken he went to sleep on the couch and slept non-stop for 14 hours.

I popped a lot of fabric into the washer yesterday evening - I'm starting a new quilt for Jens, who has his 9th birthday very, very soon. I am making 'Barefoot in the park' using this bundle. I hope - fingers crossed - it will look good. It will go together quite fast I think... And it really needs to because I'm late starting this!

Speaking of my youngest... (Warning: Proud momma moment here). This is what we did most of the weekend. The tournament of the year started Friday evening and ended Sunday afternoon with the grand finale. It didn't give me much time for quilting but that’s okay if it ends like this :

Other than that I'm banging my head in the table for making a gigantic mistake I can't undo when I cut the fabric for my June Bee Europe block. And I spent most of yesterday and today trying to find solutions to fix it. Not sure how it ends yet. Whoever said a quilters life was easy....

Although a bit late this week I'm linking up to Lee's Wednesday WIP
